The idea of selling a brand independently of a product is somewhat new, and a bit jarring, so I thought it’d be useful to clarify my thinking a bit:
…there’s no reason designers shouldn’t be able to create designed product packages, and then sell them to entrepreneurs.
All of this stems from some larger thoughts I have about the false-walls we’ve put up about what can be sold online and who can sell it, which is a line of thinking I’m now directing towards a new marketplace I’m slowly launching called Mined.
Former Svpply CEO and designer Ben Pieratt doing something I constantly strive to do: question the accepted, the given, the legacy process. Traditionally, a product or business was conceived, and the branding thoughtfully conceived and applied. This not only questions but reverses that, putting branding and that thoughtful design in the product’s slot, to sell, to land somewhere, to be purchased. Bravo.
